Restore Braille Books of Kherson Regional Library, Ukraine

Kherson Regional Universal Library was destroyed in 2023, yet librarians continue to serve their community as Kherson is regularly attacked. Funds raised help to rebuild a Braille book collection for community members with visual impairments. Dr. Ulia Gosart’s colleague, Tetiana Svatula, tells the story of the library in this article in our interview.

Build a Brighter Future for Ukraine’s Children, One Child and One Book at a Time

Join us in empowering Ukrainian children through the joy of reading! Inspired by the resilience and creativity showcased in the "Children Draw War Not Flowers" exhibition, this GoFundMe campaign, in collaboration with San Jose State University’s School of Information, aims to nurture literacy and provide safe spaces for Ukrainian children affected by war. We're building library housed book spaces, consisting of handcrafted book houses and collections of children books. These spaces, designed by local Ukrainian artisans, will provide safe havens for children to read, learn, and dream.We have phased goals, starting with Cherkasy and expanding to Kyiv and other regions.

Donations Will Fund:

Construction: Each book house is built by local artisans, supporting the Ukrainian economy.

Books: We will curate each book sharing house with a steady stream of children's books.

Community Outreach: Partner with local librarians and communities to ensure success.

Our Project Stages:

Cherkasy Launch (Goal: $5,000) - 3 LFL Book Houses, purchasing of children’s books; Kyiv Expansion (Goal: $10,000) - 3 more LFL Book Houses, more books; Ukraine-Wide Impact (Goal: $25,000) - 4 more LFL Book Houses in other villages, expanding our book collection

Supporting Village Libraries in Ukraine

Help us support village libraries in Ukraine. Village libraries in Ukraine are the only social hubs in their communities; they support local schools, elderly, internally displaced persons in addition to servicing their regular readers. Today village libraries desperately need books.Our goal is to help 7 villages: 4 in Boyarka community, Kiev region; and 3 in Cherkasy region by raising $1000 per each village.
